Incest Survivors
Incest Survivors Aberdeen is a Scottish Charity dedicated to adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse both male and female, and their supporters.
Welcome to our information board. We have contact details for local organisations which offer counselling to survivors, and national organisations providing support including counselling, information and resources.

To give a broad selection of agencies and approaches we display some services outwith the Aberdeen area, and include a number of help-lines, web sites and newsletters.

Helping someone in concern with this issue either in a personal or a professional way may have brought your attention to the subject for the first time. Perhaps you are a survivor of abuse seeking information for yourself. Possibly you have no idea what to make of your experiences or where to turn.

We aim to assist people in reaching an understanding of the issue of childhood sexual abuse and to encourage survivors to take steps toward recovery. For nearly ten years we operated an answer-phone reply and information service. Over time we found most people want a wide selection of information to consider before making contact with organisations offering services. The majority of our callers were not wishing to speak with anyone but wanted to be mailed information packs. It was often clear they were apprehensive about leaving their name and address.

To be concerned about the safety of your identity and the confidentiality of information you part with is wise under any circumstances but with regards this issue it is paramount.

We believe the internet is an excellent medium for people who are interested in exploring the aftermath of childhood sexual abuse and possible steps toward recovery because it allows individuals to remain anonymous wile they look around and develop their own ideas.

However the internet is not a ‘safe’ setting to explore through entering topics like ‘child sexual abuse’ or ‘incest’ into search engines. Encountering pornography can be a problem when looking at web sites with seemingly benign titles. Using these terms directly can produce more unwanted, disturbing material than helpful information. Unfortunately well intentioned filters on some computers also block access to sites which hold information on help and recovery.

So we are happy to have found the Beehive, and happy you have found us in the Beehive. We believe this information board will enable you to make safe connections and begin to navigate resources, services and networks and which are available.

Local one-to-one services and contact details are outlined. National Help-lines for a variety of services dealing with adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse as well as allied issues and crisis support are listed. Some information on projects and help-lines which are smaller and more regionally based are included, which cover needs not met in our locality. We have listed some news letters and web-sites. Increasing numbers of organisations have web sites. Some agencies have sites describing what they offer, others also have news letters and a few provide interactive online services.

Always remember to take care of yourself. Move away from anything which does not feel good to you. Things which are helpful and recovery orientated can become too much or frightening at times. You can stop. You can come back to it another time. Explore at your own pace.
