Attack! - March 2006
SENIOR NEWS - DIVISION 1
With the split fast approaching, the league title is going to be a hotly contested affair. The top 6 teams will play each other once again with the bottom 6 teams doing the same, each team playing for their final league position. Season 2004/2005 winners MTM-1 are lying in 4th place and, with only two points separating leaders HAZLEHEAD-1 and BEACON-A, the coveted 1st position place is up for grabs. The league is there for the taking!
SENIOR NEWS - DIVISION 2
With Division 2 following the same format as Division 1, the league looks like shaping up to be an interesting one. Teams can gain promotion into Division 1 depending on their finishing position. While ELLON-A look strong, having won every match, the 2nd place spot will be fought hard for between CHEVRON, DELOITTE and BEACON-B.
JUNIOR NEWS - UNDER 15s
Beacon confirmed their lead at the top of the table with a 36-9 win over Turriff last weekend.
JUNIOR NEWS - UNDER 13s
Hazlehead narrowly beat Newtonhill in a very exciting match on Sunday 19th February. Final score was 14-9. Beacon won their first match after seeing off Ellon in a 12-7 win.
DISTRICT SQUAD UPDATE - UNDER 17s
Our very talented group of girls have just completed another successful competition. The squad travelled to Linwood, Renfrewshire to compete in U17 Development Tournament open to all districts, minus their Scotland players. Aberdeen A looked strong all the way through, making short work of first round matches against Lanarkshire A, Renfrewshire A, Perth 2 and Glasgow B. A thrilling semi-final match between Lanarkshire B meant they cruised through to the final where they met Perth A. They were narrowly beaten in an exciting final and travelled home with well-deserved silver medals.
The squad were:
Hannah Leslie (c) - Beacon
Catrin Dickson (vc) - Hazlehead
Abigail Burr - Beacon
Lauren Pirie - RGC
Jenny Gilmour - Mackie
Becky Gordon - Cowie
Claire Duguid - Ellon
Louise Watson - St Margarets
Leah Barron - Beacon
Kimberley Knowles - Hazlehead
THANKS TO THE UMPIRES JANE MORRIS (ELLON) AND TRACEY HART (CHEVRON) FOR MAKING THE DAY POSSIBLE.
DISTRICT SQUAD NEWS - UNDER 15s
Both Aberdeen A and B teams are off to compete in Glasgow on 25th and 26th February in the U15 Coaching Schools Tournament. We wish them good luck in all their matches!
OTHER NETBALL NEWS!
Well done to Lisa Vosti, Beacon A defender, who has gained her 1st Cap for Scotland. Adopted Aberdonian Lisa, originally from Melbourne, played for Scotland in the FENA Open Squad Tournament in Cardiff on 17/18/19 February.
Keep an eye out for details of U13 Versatility Tournament information coming soon!
Congratulations Catherine!
Congratulations to Catherine Paterson who recently won the Aberdeen Sports Council Coach of the year award.
Catherine has proved herself to be both motivational and inspirational and manages to get the best out of her players at Beacon Netball Club. She coached the U15 team, Beacon Allstars to win their U15 league. They spent the whole season at the top of the table and retained the league trophy. The same team managed to make it through to the finals of the Scottish Youth Cup, where they were only beaten by one goal in the final minute.
As Aberdeen U15 District Coach, she achieved an incredible treble victory, winning all three available District trophies. The Coaching Schools trophy, the U15 League Cup and the Inter-district Shield. This is the first time the trophies have ever been brought to the north-east.
As well as club and district achievements, she also guided 2 local players into trials for the Scotland U17 Netball Squad.
